AWL IDD ROWING

In Partnership with Wakefield & Anacostia Community Boathouse

There is a place for all athletes with intellectual impairment (including Intellectual and developmental disabilities, Autism and Down syndrome) to join a dynamic team and learn the exciting sport of rowing. Our inclusive program is led by AWL DC Rowing Head Coach Patrick Johnson. Athletes first learn sweep and sculling rowing on the indoor rowing machines and move to the boats when ready with opportunities to compete in US Rowing and even Virtus International events organized by the AWL National Program.

Interested athletes should review the Athletes Without Limits National eligibility page about the Virtus sports classes for Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome and Autism+ and apply for National level eligibility.

Our inclusive team also welcomes Veterans as part of our Veteran Leaders/Freedom Rows program.
